Colour-ring combination on a Red Knot

Some shorebird species have been colour-marked over many decades and many different schemes have been in operation. In some cases there are now very few available combinations unless we start to reuse combinations from older schemes, but we don’t always know whether schemes are still active. It is essential that we do not inadvertently duplicate combinations across schemes.
