Our annual conference

The IWSG Annual Conference is one of the highlights of the year for anyone interested in waders, shorebird science and conservation. In a different European country each year, the conference usually spans a weekend in September or October. We pride ourselves in running friendly conferences attended by ringers, students, wader enthusiasts and conservationist biologists. Each conference includes 2 days of lectures, poster sessions, local excursions, plus one or more workshops on special themes. Recent workshops have included: lowland wader trends, conservation status of the Numeniini, oystercatcher species around the world. Of course, there’s also plenty of time to meet friends old and new.

Listed below are details of our upcoming conference and an archive of our previous conferences back to 1996. Details of conferences during 1975–1995 can be found here.

The International Wader Study Group also encourages its members to take part in other shorebird group meetings to further strengthen the collaboration in the conservation and research of the wader world. For example, the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group holds regular meetings.

Each year we support the participation of up to five delegates from Low Income Countries in our meeting. If you are interested in donating for this cause, please contact the IWSG Treasurer.
