From 1995 to 2000, 205 adult Willets Tringa semipalmata and 111 adult Marbled Godwits Limosa fedoa were captured on their nests in southern Alberta, Canada, and uniquely colour-marked. Sixty sightings were reported away from the breeding grounds, all in California, USA, and Baja California, Mexico. The 52 godwit sightings represented 16 individuals (14% of those marked), and the 8 Willet sightings 6 individuals (3% of those marked). All California sightings except for one godwit were of migrants. Marbled Godwits and Willets in this study wintered in Mexico or farther south, but not California.
