Eurasian Oystercatcher is only a vagrant in SE Asia, having been recorded in Myanmar, NE Vietnam and Peninsular Malaysia, and in Borneo. The authors describe a record of a vagrant Eurasian Oystercatcher on North Sumatra, which is “part of a spate of new distribution records of vagrant migrant shorebirds in Sumatra. This appears most likely to relate to rapidly increasing interest in shorebirds among local researchers and birdwatchers on the island, as well as easier access to binoculars and cameras with long lenses.”
