Curlew Sandpiper is a rare northward migrant (23 May–16 June) and a rare to common southward migrant (11 July–17 September) in the southern part of the Chita Region. Southward migration of adult birds was recorded from 11 July to 17 August, and of juveniles from 9 August to 17 September. Numbers of Curlew Sandpipers (and other Calidris waders) increased during dry years.
